Foundation, to assist Kiwanis International to serve the world

The International
Foundation funds activities and programs to meet the principal
needs of young children. The mission of our Foundation is 'to
assist Kiwanis International to serve the world.' Each
Kiwanian worldwide is a member of the Kiwanis International
Foundation.

Founded in 1940, the
International Foundation is the entity that raises funds to
support Kiwanis International programs. Kiwanis clubs and
Kiwanis members contribute funds to the Foundation to support
programs that have similar goals and objectives to Kiwanis.

The International
Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees, including its
officers and Trustees. Trustees are selected by the Kiwanis
International President in consultation with the Foundation
Board

How
your foundation serves the children of the world
Your
International Foundation is constantly growing and
expanding its efforts to benefit young children around the
world. It is actively engaged in supporting major programs
which capture the imagination and enthusiasm of the entire
Kiwanis family and reflect the international scope of
Kiwanis worldwide service.
More than $70 million dollars have been raised or pledged
through the Foundation to eradicate iodine deficiency
disorders throughout the world. Over the years, your
International Foundation has funded other grants in excess
of $15 million to needy organizations around the globe.
It provides the opportunity by which all Kiwanians can
assist worldwide programs by helping to finance those that
are beyond the scope of Kiwanis clubs, divisions, or
districts.
What has your Kiwanis -International Foundation done in
Europe?

Bulgarian Orphanage & Medical Relief Fund
– Grant purchased and shipped medicines & vitamins for
840 children in orphanages.

The Albania Committee of Norway – Grant
transported humanitarian aid to establishments assisting
needy families and their children in mountain villages.

Olympic - St. Petersburg in Russia –
Grant distributed to children’s orphanages in direct
need of funding for supplies and basic necessities.

Kiwanis club of Ruhr in Germany – Grant
funded the refurbishment and remodeling of a vessel to
be used as classroom & social center for hundreds of
children whose parents operate transport ships.

Kiwanis District of Norden – Grant funded
the purchase and installation of machinery for the
creation of dolls for distribution to children in
hospitals.

Kiwanis District of Iceland – Faroes –
Grant funded to support victims in a small village in
Iceland hit by an avalanche.

Floating Hospital for Children, former
Yugoslavia – Funds to help maintain hospital which
specializes in child health care.

Children of the World, Bucharest, Romania
– A grant to provide health care for children with
infectious diseases.
Robert P. Connelly Medal for Heroism
This originated on September 23, 1966 as Kiwanian Robert
P. Connelly, 34, attempted to rescue a handicapped woman
who had fallen in the path of an oncoming train. Before he
could pull the woman from the tracks, both were killed.
The medal honors those who risk death or physical harm in
saving or attempting to save the life of another.
Nominations are submitted by Kiwanis clubs and presented
to the Foundation Board of Trustees for approval. More
than 400 Robert P. Connelly Medals for Heroism have been
presented since its inception in 1968.
Tablet of Honor
Was established in 1968. A division, or district honors a
Kiwanian or another who has exemplified dedicated service
to Kiwanis. Contributions may be designated for the WSP/IDD
campaign or to the KIF Endowment Fund. Recipients are
honored at a reception at the International convention, in
the Honors Booklet, and on a permanent donor recognition
display at the International office. Recipients receive a
custom inscribed plaque, a pin, and a crest to be worn at
special Kiwanis functions. One can only receive a tablet
of Honor by donations from another individual, club,
division, or district. An individual cannot purchase this
award for themselves.
George F. Hixson Fellowship
Was established in 1983 and honors the first president of
Kiwanis International. Membership is obtained trough a
(US)$ contribution. Only individuals are eligible for
membership in the George F. Hixson Fellowship.
Contributions may be designated for the WSP/IDD campaign
or to the KIEF Endowment Fund. Members are honored at a
reception at the International convention, in the Honors
Booklet, and on a permanent donor recognition display at
the International Office. Members receive a personalized
plaque, a medallion with ribbon, and a pin. Additional
contributions of (US) $ 1000 each qualifies for a
diamond-level Hixson Fellowship, and members receive a new
Diamond -Hixson pin and number tab.
Annual Club Gift Campaign
Is conducted between October 1st and March 31st each year.
Funds contributed are used to award unrestricted grants on
a worldwide basis. The annual Club Gift Campaign is the
Foundation’s primary source of unrestricted income and
helps determine which projects the Foundation can support
each year.

Tsunami
relief fund
Many Kiwanis districts around the world
among them the European districts of Belgium-Luxembourg,
France-Monaco, Italy-San Marino, and the Netherlands and
two clubs Kiwanis Club of Sion Valais and Kiwanis Club
of Sierre Soleil from district Switzerland Liechtenstein,
took part in the global fund raising of KIF for the
Tsunami victims. More than 850’000.—US dollars were
collected. Here are some pictures of the projects
actually underway by local Kiwanis Clubs in Indonesia
and Sri Lanka with the financial support of Kiwanis
International Foundation Tsunami fund.
The members of the Indonesian Kiwanis
clubs are active in building the Mutiara School in the
island of Nyas. A special reception was organized to
welcome the visit of KI delegate. The Indonesia Kiwanis
members are also involved in building a housing project
in Aceh as well as the WISMA Kiwanis orphanage in the
Djakarta area.
The Kiwanis Club of Colombo in Sri Lanka
in a joint venture with a local organisation is
sheltering orphans in Pandiruppu on the east coast. A
preschool has also been built in Tangualle in the South
of the country and its equipment is financed by some
European Kiwanis Clubs. The Kiwanis Club of Moncton, New
Brunswick, introduced them to a young Canadian volunteer
who has been appointed project coordinator of the
Kiwanis Vision of Hope project. He now acts as the
on-site representative for the KC Colombo.

The
European Special Olympics, Rome 2006 - a big success
story
There were 1500
young mentally disabled athletes coming from 57 European
Countries. Thanks to Kiwanis International members and a
grant from Kiwanis International Foundation, The
European Federation was able to collect 15.359,50€ (about
20000 $) and adopt 128 Athletes.
Kiwanis leaders had
a strong emotions when entering the stadium with them.
There where 20 000 spectators, a lot of Olympic gold
medalists, show business singers, actors and higher
Authorities. All the European countries were represented
by at least their Ambassador.
This great event was
broadcasted live on Italian TV. Kiwanis T-shirts were
given to our athletes and 20 big Kiwanis flags were
displayed in the stadium. Alfredo Lisi with a lot of
Kiwanis juniors and adult Italian members helped KIEF
President Giampaolo Ravasi in this big event.

Agreement Kiwanis International Foundation and Kiwanis
International European Federation
This
agreement will be effective on the date signed by all
parties
This agreement is between the Kiwanis International
Foundation (KIF) and the Kiwanis International European
Federation (KIEF).
The parties agree it is to the best interest of Kiwanis
International to provide a working agreement for
contributions received in Europe for the Kiwanis
International Foundation – Europe.
The parties agree as follows:
- Contributions made
in Europe to Kiwanis International Foundation – may be
received by Kiwanis International Foundation – Europe on
behalf of KIF.
- Kiwanis
International Foundation – Europe on behalf of Kiwanis
International European
Federation will maintain a bank account into which funds
will be deposited which will be separate and apart from
the Federation own account.
- Kiwanis
International Foundation funds received in Europe by
Kiwanis International Foundation.
Europe, shall be held in the separate account until the
Kiwanis International Foundation directs its use unless
the donor has directed the use at the time of donation.
- The expenditure of
KIF funds received by Kiwanis International Foundation –
Europe, not otherwise specified for use by the donor,
shall be directed by Kiwanis International Foundation to
grants recommended by Kiwanis International European
Federation benefiting Europe or to causes outside Europe
when approved by the Board of Kiwanis International
European Federation.
- The signing officer
of this account shall be the Kiwanis International
European Federation
President and the General Director of the European
Service Center.
- Kiwanis
International Foundation – Europe will account for all
fund’s received on behalf of Kiwanis International
Foundation and will forward at least monthly to KIF a
list of donors and a copy of the bank account statement
of the funds being held in the special account for
Kiwanis International Foundation – Europe.
- Qualifying for tax
exemptions for contributions will be the responsibility
of each district of Europe for the country.
- These funds to the
Kiwanis International Foundation being held in Kiwanis
International Foundation – Europe account will include
but are not limited to: Hixsons, Tablet of Honor,
Kiwanis Fellow, Scolarships, Memorials, Tributes and
projects approved by Kiwanis International, Kiwanis
International Foundation and Kiwanis International
European Federation.
